Oh, glorious day! We have been blessed with a shiny new public aquarium, the MOTE Science Education Aquarium. May it aid in sharing our fishy gospel! Located in Sarasota, Florida, its collection focuses largely on local marine life, housed in a three-story structure. There is also a largo gallery showcasing Indo-Pacific species.
As with most large aquariums, the freshwater eco-system love is lacking, though they do keep some killifish, mollys, darters, and sunfish, all native species. Considering Florida’s war with invasive species, this feels like a missed opportunity to educate the public. Hopefully they have room to expand beyond plecos (Sucker Mouth Fish) in the future.
